Vineyard Notes
2022 was another epic vintage in WA state. One of the wettest springs on record had early shoot growth booming. The cool Spring weather pushed back bud break and flowering, eventually pushing harvest back about three weeks. The heat finally started to show up at the end of June, maybe even too much heat, when it is over 100 degrees the grapes don’t ripen as quickly. We started picking in mid September and finished at the end of October. The compressed harvest had some challenges but in the end we are enthusiastic about what is to come.
Winemaker Notes
I love getting to make our rose out of Barbera. We treat the vines for our red wine different than our rose. With the rose we allow more fruit to hang on the vines. We like to pick at low bricks when the acidity is still nice and high. We machine harvested our Barbera grapes in early September and fermented them in a stainless steel tank. The fermentation went smoothly and the wine aged for a few months prior to filtration and bottling.
