Vineyard Notes
2021 was a very interesting growing season. The winter was normal and spring started off nice and smooth. Temperatures slowly warmed and the grapes went through set and bloom right on time. In late June we had a heatwave that impacted the rest of the vintage. At the end of June we hit a high of 118 degrees, and had over 45 days of triple digit weather. The grapes stayed small, and while the crop load was light the flavors were intense.
Winemaker Notes
Coyote Canyon Vineyard planted the first Albariño grapes in WA state in 2006 and added additional acreage in 2011. This exciting Spanish varietal is a rarity in WA state, but has steadily grown a following over the years. We made our first Concrete Albariño in 2018.
In 2019 we purchased our Dolia shaped concrete fermenter and have been making some of our Albariño in it each year. The tank is slowly seasoning and adds some mineral notes and softens the acidity. The flavor profile has ripe fruit and a long tangy finish. It was aged for 6 months on its lees before filtration and bottling.
