This vintage has a delicate pink color, light salmon. Our signature note of wild strawberry leads the way, followed by light floral notes, and some tangy orange notes. The flavors pop. You get some strawberry flavors and a unique minerality note. The first taste is fruity but the acidity cleans the palate and leaves you wanting more. The balance is great and the finish is long and smooth.
The start of 2020 was wet for Eastern Washington standards. There were a few inches of snow that accumulated during winter. The spring saw a few showers down at lower elevations while the mountains continued to get snow, this meant there was plenty of snowpack in the mountains and plenty of moisture in the soils to ensure vines got off to a good start. The spring continued the trend and vines started to push a little earlier than average. This early season growth seemed to set us on a path to early harvest, but the summer was consistent and did not make harvest start early. Overall, the heat units were up but limited days in the triple digits had vines ripening at a steady pace. It was another season that saw smoke impact some areas, we seemed to miss the worst of it at our vineyard. The white wines were picked in early September and harvest went all the way to the end of October. The quality is amazing, and we cannot wait to share the wines with you.
I have continually evolved my approach to making this Rose and have found an expression I really enjoy. A big key to creating the type of Rose I want is picking when there is enough intensity of flavor, high natural acidity and not too much sugar. This vintage the wine was fermented in 100% stainless steel and shows great fruit characteristics. The mouthfeel is delicate this year while still being distinct. I did blend in a touch of red Barbera to add more intensity to the color but loved the way the wine was tasting and made minimal other adjustments. This is one of my favorite Rose’s yet.
