Vineyard Notes
2021 was a very interesting growing season. The winter was normal and spring started off nice and smooth. Temperatures slowly warmed and the grapes went through set and bloom right on time. In late June we had a heatwave that impacted the rest of the vintage. We hit a high of 118 degrees and had over 45 days of triple digit weather. The grapes
stayed small and the crop load was smaller but loaded with intense flavors.
Winemaker Notes
This continues to be a fun wine to blend every year. I am usually at the mercy of the vineyard when it comes to making this wine, how much of each varietal we get determines what I can do. Syrah continues to be the lead dog followed with equal parts Grenache and Mourvedre. This is pretty close to what I imagine the blend being at the start of the season. We pick each varietal separately and after about a year of aging the wine is blended. This allows the wine to age together for about 8 months prior to bottling and also lets me make last minute adjustments if needed.
