60% Graciano, 35% Tempranillo, 5% Grenache
Nice dark color. Ripe fruit mixes with earth, tea, light oak and spice. The flavors are rich and grippy. Lots of tannin on the finish gives it a gritty feeling and long finish. Drink now-2029
2019 started with some cold winter weather. The month of February was filled with snow. The soils were wet when spring hit, and growth took off. We didn’t need to irrigate the grapes until July, much later than average. The summer was warm but not overly extreme. The heat units were on pace with some of the hotter vintages, but trailed off as summer came to an end.
Harvest kicked off with our Rose in late August, then the whites in September. Things continued smoothly until we got a cold snap in October. It was all hands-on deck at that point, and we hustled to harvest the rest of the grapes. 2019 will end up being another stellar vintage of wines from Coyote Canyon Vineyard.
This is a great wine to make. The combination of varietals create a unique wine with great body and concentration. All the varietals were harvested and fermented separately. They were aged for approximately one year then blended together to age as one for another 8 months. Graciano is the dominate varietal, bringing great color and structure to the wine. The Tempranillo adds bright fruit notes and great acidity. The touch of Grenache adds a little pizzaz.
