2019 CCW Life is Rośe
Horse Heaven Hills AVA
Hot ruby pink color, light but intense. Aromas of wild strawberry, flint, light floral notes, and orange zest. The flavors pop. You get some strawberry flavors and a unique minerality note. The first taste is rich and full, but the acidity cleans the palate and leaves you wanting more.
The start of 2020 was wet for Eastern Washington standards, some snow accumulated, and a few showers meant there was plenty of snowpack in the mountains and plenty of moisture in the soils to ensure vines got off to a good start. The spring continued the trend and vines started to push a little earlier than average. This early season growth seemed to set us on a path to early harvest, but the summer was consistent and did not make harvest start to early. Overall, the heat units were up but limited days in the triple digits had vines ripening at a steady pace. It was another season that saw smoke impact some areas, we seemed to miss the worst of it at our vineyard. The white wines were picked in early September and harvest went all the way to the end of October. The quality is amazing, and we can’t wait to share the wines with you.
I have continually evolved my approach to making this Rose and have found an expression I really enjoy. A big key to creating the type of Rose I want is picking when there is enough intensity of flavor, high natural acidity and not too much sugar. This is the first vintage we fermented half of the wine in concrete and half in stainless steel. I love the gravel and minerality quality the concrete has added to the stainless portion. The mouthfeel is a little richer and complex. The finish just doesn’t give up.
