2017 CCW Barbera
Horse Heaven Hills AVA
October 11th, 2017
September 12th, 2019
Oaky aromas, dark blackberries, cocoa, and spice. The flavors are bold and rich. Lots of acidity gives it a brightness on the finish. The Merlot adds mid palate and blueberry pie notes. Drink 2019-2027

2017 was a good year for our Barbera. We cropped a little lower than average and the results show in the body of the wine. I feel like this is a varietal that is over-looked. Kind of like the Merlot of Italy. Great body, easy drinking wines that do not always get the recognition they deserve. It is a little bit of a mystery to me how this wine can be big and fruity with a smooth finish yet have a high acidity. I started enjoying wine when I worked for an Italian restaurant in Santa Cruz. It was fun to try all the different Italian varietals, from Dolcetto’s to Barbera’s. This gape became a favorite of mine and I like thinking we can help start its history here in Washington. Thinking we are a small part of history is inspiring.
