2014 CCW Tres Cruces
Horse Heaven Hills AVA
June 30th, 2016
If the flavors and aromas don’t knock you off your feet the alcohol certainly will. This is the most powerful Tres Cruces blend we have made yet. Inky dark color with red edges let you know this is no ordinary Rhone style blend. The bouquet has dark cherries, oak, spice and currants. Beef jerky flavors mingle with tart strawberries, spice, leather, and cocoa powder. The Syrah saves the finish by adding some silky smoothness to the spicy black pepper.

This is the third Tres Cruces blend I have made and it continues to be great fun to create. Working with the three varietals and trying to come up with the right combination is a gratifying task. This is the lowest percentage of Syrah used in the blend yet. Grenache became a much bigger player this vintage while the Mourvèdre was used to accent the other varietals. The Syrah has always been a nice backbone to the wine, it adds a rich mouthfeel and smooth silky finish to the wine. The Grenache has great acidity and light bright fruit characteristics that mixed well in the blend. Mourvèdre has black pepper and spice components that give the wine more structure and a longer finish.
