2013 H/H Estates Buck Syrah

This is a Washington Syrah with aromas that jump out of the bottle. Big fruit aromas mixed with a meaty complexity and toasty barrel notes make for a pleasing smell. The flavors are ripe cherry, mild oak, caramel-coated plums, and white pepper. The wine is big and mouth-filling with some acidity and great tannin. The finish is silky and smooth. The slight woody notes help this wine pair well with barbecue foods.

Vineyard Notes
2013 was a great grape growing season in Washington State. The Horse Heaven Hills AVA was above its long-term average for GDD by 150 units. With warm temperatures throughout the summer, it seemed like an early harvest was inevitable but a cool September helped the grapes develop flavors while slowing down the ripening to make for a great harvest.
Winemaker Notes
The Buck is named after one of the bulls that used to roam the Coyote Canyon Vineyard before it was a vineyard. The blend is 100% Syrah and fermented in French oak barrels. I find that Syrah can be a tricky wine to make and can change directions pretty quickly. I enjoy the finish of this wine and think that Syrah can be a great addition to some of our other blends because of its great color, fruit forwardness, and silky finish. It has a lot of the components I enjoy finding in a Syrah and I hope that you agree.
